We did a huge volume of award-winning work for VW at Crispin & Porter. This is just one piece, but it’s a very unique piece that won a lot of awards and sold a lot of product. But it also did one other thing. It realized itself. It became real.

VW wanted to hit the “tuner” market—kids who trick out their rides to make them moronically fast. But the Germans weren’t keen on looking like they promoted gas guzzlers. 

So we invented a new (fake) world for them: “Green Tuners”; young buyers who find ways to make their cars faster and more fuel efficient. VW loved it, the fake movement caught fire and became real. VW sold a bunch of cars. We even launched a real magazine called “Green Tuner”. 

We made Germans smile, which is, technically speaking, a physical impossibility.
